John Frederick “Fred” Buchanan of 2520 Jefferson Davis Highway, Sanford, NC passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born March 21, 1928 in Lee County.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Carr Buchanan and Annie Campbell Buchanan, brothers Bryan Buchanan of Sanford, NC, F.C. Buchanan of Durham, NC, Bobby Buchanan of Broadway, NC, sisters Betty Lou Wall of Spring Lake, NC and Catherine Simmons of Middleport, NY and a grandson Jason Brian Taylor of Carthage.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Phillips Buchanan of the home; one daughter Jan Douglas and husband Edward of Lemon Spring, NC and a son Gerald Buchanan of Longs, SC, sister Evelyn Bryan of Raleigh and one granddaughter Dana Sadler and husband Jimmy of Moore County, NC and five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted husband and father to his wife and children.  He loved his church and friends.  He served in the US Navy in World War II.  He retired from GKN in 1991.  He was a member of The Seven Seas Club for many years.  He loved working outside and bowling.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 30th, at Grace Chapel with Rev. Joel Murr and Dr. Royce Baker presiding.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
