Norma Goins Parten, age 91, of Olivia, NC, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2017.
She was born in Stokes County on September 9, 1925 to the late Benjamin Goins and Lissie G. Goins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Benjamin Parten; a daughter, Janice Parten Simpson; sister, Juanita McCoy and a great-grandson, John Garner. Norma was employed by Federal Spinning for many years as well as Eckerds, Mack’s and Popes Dime Stores. She loved the relationships she built with her customers and co-workers.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard Parten and Billy Parten and wife, Rosemary; grandchildren, Charles Simpson, Vickie Garner, Lisa Carter, Gerald Parten, Opal Parten, Matthew Parten and Jason Parten; six great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.
One of the things Norma enjoyed the most was crocheting. In her retirement, she made countless afghans for family and friends. She was so proud of her beautiful creations and the recipients loved and appreciated them too. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to her houseplants and feeding the wild birds. She loved her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Cameron Grove Cemetery with Father Craig Lister officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Norma’s memory.
