Luther Currie Lee, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

Luther was born on November 23, 1930 to the late Dewey and Verdia K. Lee of Cumberland County. In 1953, he married Essie Denkins of Sanford. As a young husband and father of four, he worked hard to provide for his family and spent his free time coaching his sons’ little league baseball team and cultivating a pristine garden. Luther worked for over 45 years as pattern maker, machinist, and mechanic. He was known by the community for his innate ability to fix anything. Later in life, he loved spending time outdoors, regularly camping and fishing with family and friends at Jordan Lake. He will be remembered for the enduring love, generosity, and support he showed everyone in his life.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Essie Lee; his son, Danny Lee of Sanford; his daughter, Dianne Densmore of Titusville, FL; his daughter, Carol Pierce of Hendersonville; his four grandchildren, Jay Carlyle, Chris Lee, Kristin Allen, Natalie Pierce; and his great grandchildren, Addisyn Allen and Weatherly Carlyle. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Jimmy Lee.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home at 3:00pm. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm preceding the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice of Sanford.
