Mrs. Winnie Genevieve Johnson Buchanan, age 84, of Sanford, NC, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

Mrs. Buchanan was born in Lee County, on July 16, 1931, to the late James Monroe Johnson and Winnie Wadsworth Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas Elton Buchanan and Dan Powell; brothers, Clarence, Lewis, J. D. and William (Bill) Johnson; two sisters, Eloise Corbett and Pearl Matthews.  She was a member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church.  Mrs. Buchanan attended Jonesboro School and graduated from Sanford Business College.  She worked as a dental assistant prior to retirement.

Survived by sons, Tommy Buchanan and wife Belinda of Sanford, Richard Buchanan of Sanford and Sam Buchanan and wife Melissa of Sanford; one step-son Robert Powell and wife Doris of Sanford; a special niece Betty Jean Cooper; seven grandchildren; one step grandchild and nine great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, from 6 to 8PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church Sat., Feb. 13^th, 11AM with Rev. Richard Wood presiding.  Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery.
