G. R. “Mack” Womble, 86, went home to his Savior on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Mack was born August 13, 1929 to George Roberson (d. 1956) and Ella McCoy Womble (d. 1929) in Harnett Co., NC.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He worked in the milk industry for twenty-three years, nineteen of those with Long Meadow Farms.  Mack was the owner of Womble’s Grocery for ten years, a salesman for Integrity National Life, service technician for Sandhills Electric Supply Company and Butler Electric Supply.  Mack served as Mayor of Cameron, NC for nine years.  He was a member of Cameron Presbyterian Church.  Mack also volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts of America for more than thirty-five years, raised hogs, was an avid farmer, and an appliance repairman.  He loved trains, old cars, working with his hands, being outside, and building toys for his grandchildren.

He has been reunited in Heaven with his parents, Roberson, Ella and Evie Holder Womble (d. 1989); sister, Mary Ella Womble (d. 1993); brothers Billie Womble (d. 1934), Tommy Womble (d. 2004), and his wife of twenty-nine years, Mary Burgess Womble (d. 1981).

His legacy continues and his life remains in his wife of four and half years, Mildred Elizabeth Womble; sister Rebecca Womble Yarborough; son, Morris Allan Womble; daughters, Gina Womble Barber and husband Danny, Angie Womble Priest and husband Doug, Diane Womble, Georgie Womble Brown and husband Earl; twelve grandchildren, Aaron, Mary Laura, Morrissa, Dawn, Daniel, Gaston, Christan, Robin, Joshua, Roberson, Elizabeth, and Virginia; ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, it is humbly requested that memorials be made to the charity or cause of your choice.  Some of Mack’s favorites were: Cameron Presbyterian Church, Phillips Memorial Park, The Gideons International, Boy Scouts of America, and The Wounded Warrior Project.

The viewing will be Wed., June 22, 2016, at 3PM preceding the service at Cameron Presbyterian Church Sanctuary and the funeral at 4PM also at Cameron Presbyterian Church with Rev.
