Willie "Billy" Martin Stephens, Jr.

Willie M. Stephens, Jr., “Billy” age 88, of Sanford, NC, died Friday, October 2, 2020 at the FirstHealth Hospice in Moore County, NC.

He was born in Harnett County, NC on May 20, 1932 to the late Willie Martin Stephens and Mattie Liza Whittington Stephens.  Billy was born on a tobacco farm and still missed farming on his family land.  He was the last of ten siblings.  He served our country in the United States Navy and enjoyed visiting with fellow Navy friends in the USS Douglas H. Fox Destroyer Group.  When health allowed, he enjoyed restoring old cars and fishing.  He will be missed.

Billy is survived by daughters Kathy Collins and husband Les; Vicky Matthews and husband Tommy, Ashley Barnes and husband Scott all of Sanford; grandchildren Chad Collins and wife Christy, Derrick Matthews and wife Ashley, Jordan Barnes, Skyler Barnes and great-grandchildren Abby, Katie and Jocelyn.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 3:00 PM with Pastor Joel Murr officiating.  At other times, the family will be receiving friends at Billy’s house, 3108 Hillandale Drive, Sanford, NC 27332.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Billy’s memory, to FirstHealth Hospice, 251 Campground Rd., West End, NC 27376.
