William "Billy" Merritt Walker

William “Billy” Merritt Walker, age 87, of Sanford, NC passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at Keller’s Oak Haven Rest Home with his family by his side.

He was born in Lee County, NC on January 27, 1936 to the late Robert Siler Walker and Lucy Brooks Walker.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lola Mae O’Quinn Walker and brother Robert “Bobby” Walker.  Billy was a kind and gentle man who loved farming, tending to his yard and was a passionate gardener.  He graduated from Deep River High School and worked many years for Melvin Phillips Electrical.  Billy then worked for the City of Sanford prior to retirement.

He is survived by his brother Jesse Walker; sister Kathleen W. Wicker and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Zion Christian Church Cemetery with Pastor John Baker officiating.  There will be no formal visitation but you may visit with the family in the cemetery following the service.

The family wants to thank the staff of Keller’s Oak Haven and Randall Gattis for the loving care they gave to Billy.
