William Earl Morgan (Bill) age 70 of Sanford, N.C. passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Austin Morgan; his mother, Mathilde Morgan; and his brother George Austin Morgan, Jr. (Butch). His father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles McRae Spivey, (Mack) and Ruth Spivey.
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Bill settled in Sanford after meeting the love of his life, Lou Ellen Spivey Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ellen; their three children, Kelli, Brittany, and Mack and his beloved grandchildren, Knox, Kade and Oliver; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charlie and Kim Spivey. His nephews, William Alan Morgan of Texas and Matthew Morgan of Georgia and many cousins and friends from Jackson, Mississippi and Knoxville, Tennessee.
Bill worked several years in the Nuclear Industry including Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant where he met his wife Lou Ellen of 39 years. After making Sanford his home, he worked several years at Frontier Spinning. Bill finished his career with City of Sanford in Public Works (2002) and transferred to Planning and Zoning in 2005 where he retired after 18 years of service in July 2020.
Bill will be remembered for his generosity selfless nature, and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on through his family, and the countless friends and coworkers whose lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Turner’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Pastor Patrick Neal officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the family home.
