William Brooks Obituary

William Thomas “Tommy” Brooks, age 73, of Sanford, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

He was born in Lee County on December 13, 1952 to the late William Hunt Brooks, Jr. and Melrose Rhiner Brooks.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, Tommy dedicated much of his career to serving the agricultural community as District Technician for Lee County Soil & Water Conservation. Through his years of service, he worked alongside countless farmers and landowners, helping preserve the natural resources and agricultural heritage of the county he loved.

Service to others was a guiding principle throughout his life. He was a devoted member of the Lemon Springs Ruritan Club, where he faithfully served as both Club President and a member of the Board of Directors.

While his career and civic service were important to him, his greatest passion was farming. He was especially proud to call a Bicentennial Farm home, where generations of his family cultivated both the land and lasting traditions.

Tommy also found joy in spending time outdoors. Whether tending his fields, watching the changing seasons, or spending early mornings in the duck blind, he appreciated the beauty and peace of nature.

He is survived by his son Bill Brooks (Elicia) of Ohio; daughter Amanda Dickens (Paul) of Sanford; sister Susan Gaster (Preston) of Sanford and 8 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Caldwell officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service in the Parlor.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Lemon Springs Ruritan Club c/o Eddie Cupps, 3604 Baker Dr., Sanford, NC 27332.
