Willard "Dock" O. Batchelor

Willard “Dock” O. Batchelor, age 94, of Sanford, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Harnett County on June 14, 1928, to the late A.R. Batchelor and Mamie Lamm Batchelor.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth Baker, Richard Batchelor, Geraldine Laws, Elvin Batchelor and Curtis Batchelor and his son-in-law, William “Bill” McGugan.  After attending Benhaven High School, Dock served in the U.S. Army.  He then attended Durham Institute of Barbering.   It wasn’t just hair but talk and close connections that he enjoyed for over 55 years.  Dock was a member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lorena Pace Batchelor; daughter, Belinda McGugan of Sanford; son, Jeffrey Dock Batchelor and wife, Kim of Broadway and grandchildren, Callie Batchelor and Jacob Stanley.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.   Burial will be on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Buffalo Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church at 4:00 PM with Dr. Calvin Sayles, Rev. Curtis Norris and Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.
