Virginia “Ginger” Mason Morris Wick, 74, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Sanford, North Carolina on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Charles H. Wick; and four children and three grandchildren – son Dr. Harrison Wick and his wife Kimberly of Indiana, Pennsylvania; daughter Virginia “Jinnie” Mason Ambler Wick of Sanford; daughter Dr. Eliza Szymanek, her husband Joe, and grandchildren Mason, Charlianne and Lucia of Dupont, Washington; and daughter Eleanor Wick of Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia.
Ginger was born on June 23, 1948, at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington, co-founded by her grandfather Dr. John Minor Blackford and named for her mother Virginia Mason Blackford Morris. A graduate of the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, she and her husband Charles H. Wick were married on September 20, 1969, at All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Richland, Washington. They lived outside of Seattle before moving to Harford County, Maryland in 1983, where they raised their four children. She was a Colonial Dame and stay at home mother, supportive of her children in sports, scouting, school activities, and Job’s Daughters. In 2011, she and her husband retired to Sanford, North Carolina, where they were active in their church.
Fond of gardening and the outdoors, Ginger was well-traveled, loved reading and knitting, and spending time with her loving family. A founding member of Saint Francis Anglican Church of Sanford, a celebration of life service will be held on June 24, 2023.
