Tommy Eugene Whitaker, age 61, of Sanford passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 after suffering a heart attack at his home.
He was born in Lee County on February 13, 1960 to the late Paul David Whitaker and Mary Thompson Whitaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Robert Tyner. Tommy worked as an installer at Davis Glass for many years before going to work for Sanford Contractors.
Tommy is survived by his daughters Paula Gail Holler and husband Christopher of Edenton and Tonya Renee Varner; the mother of his children Vonnie Hall; siblings Frances Tyner, Horace Whitaker, George Whitaker and wife Molly all of Sanford and Jerome Whitaker and wife Vickie of Olivia; grandchildren Madison Swart and husband Eric, Caleb Holler and wife Alejandra, Jackson Holler, Asa Holler, Meghan Varner, Austin Varner and Cameron Varner and great-grandchildren Liam, Maverick and Charlotte Swart.
Tommy was an avid fisherman. He had that infectious Whitaker laugh that will be missed by so many.
A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at American Legion Post #382 located at 305 Legion Drive, Sanford, NC 27330. Light refreshments and beverages will be served. Guests are welcome to bring their favorite dish. Please come and share your memories and photos of Tommy.
