Tommy Joe Cox, age 85, of Sanford, NC passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Wake Med Cary Hospital.
He was born in Johnston County, NC on August 6, 1939 to the late Joe Ab Blackman Cox and Pearl Irene McLamb Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Sheldon Ray Cox and Raford Dee Cox.
Tommy and family moved to Lee County in 1967 where he worked at Cornell Dubilier. He later established his own plumbing business, Cox Plumbing, from which he retired in 2000. He also farmed tobacco and raised cows and pigs throughout his adult life.
Tommy is survived by his wife, of 65 years, Joyce Capps Cox; sons Steven Cox and wife Barbara, Michael Cox and wife Betsey; sisters Glendon Jernigan, Bessie Tart; grandchildren Chris Cox (Jennifer), Shawn Cox (Kaycee), Ashley Suitt, Hunter Cox, Jordan Cox, Rachel Cox, Katie Bermudez (Gary), Meaghan Layne (Devin), Liam Walters (Hannah), Caleb Walters, Seth Walters and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM and other times at the family home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Broadway Town Cemetery.
