Timothy Wayne Copas of Albemarle, NC, “saw the face of Jesus and it took his breath away” at 6:11p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, after a sudden cardiac event.
He was born on October 20th, 1967, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, to Kyle and the late Ella Mae Copas. Tim lived in New Port Richey and Dade City, Florida as a pastor’s child. He graduated from Temple Baptist High School in Dade City, Florida in 1985. He spent most of his adult life in Sanford before recently moving to Albemarle on Lake Tillery. Over the years Tim had several occupations including teaching piano lessons, serving Sanford as their, “Verizon Man,” and acting as Chief Executive Officer of New Image Media. He was a vital member of the team at RE/Max Real Estate Service and LAMCO Property Management.
Tim loved to use his God given talents to praise the Lord through Southern Gospel Music and playing the piano. He managed and performed with his family band, Southern Heritage. However, his passion was to serve as a pianist at multiple churches including Pleasant Plains Baptist in Apex and New Hope Baptist in Sanford. Tim loved to be by the water with his beloved wife, Crystal. They loved to travel internationally and looked forward to their annual beach trip spent with family at North Myrtle Beach. In recent years, Lake Tillery became his favorite place to be. He loved hosting family and friends at the lake, showing everyone around the community, preparing seafood boils, and cruising around on the boat. During football season Friday night was spent filming the games for the Lee County Community. Tim may be best known for his one-line greetings. His family enjoyed hearing the turns of phrase he used to greet all his loved ones.
Timothy was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Mae Copas. He is survived by his wife, Crystal; son, Christopher Kyle of New York; daughter, Katelin Moss (Christian) of Pittsboro; grand-child, Henry Fletcher Moss; his father, Pastor Kyle Copas of Kingsport, Tennessee; mother-in-law, Barbara Graham of Sanford; brother, Jonathan Copas (April) of Apex, NC; sister Sharon Holder (Boyd) of Kingsport, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Denise (Charles) Schreckengost of Sanford; brother-in-law, Alfred Graham of Sanford; many nieces and nephews; and his darling dog, Darla.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at 4:00 PM with the celebration of life to follow at 5:00 PM at Grace Chapel Church in Sanford. The graveside service will be Friday, September 20th, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Olivia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family would like to extend immense gratitude to the 17 first responders from Stanley County. Montgomery County EMT, Lake Tillery EMT, and Fire Departments who went above and beyond their call of duty.
