It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy Dale Coleman of Sanford, NC, who left us November 18th at the age of 65. He was a devoted husband to Janice Hilliard Coleman of 43 years along with being a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was born on June 12th 1959 in Olivia, North Carolina to the late Thomas Lee Coleman and Jackie Morris Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his brother Randy Coleman. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughters Blair Burns (Carter), BreAnn Verreen (Chris), and Hunter Preston (Dustin); his grandchildren August Burns, Emerson and Micah Verreen, Harleigh and Chandler Preston; and his brother Percy Coleman.
Tim and Janice were high school sweethearts who built a loving and enduring partnership over 43 years of marriage. Their unwavering commitment to each other was a beautiful example of love, dedication, and shared memories that will forever be cherished.
All of his grandchildren treasured Papa Tim, with each child running towards him, calling, "Papa Tim, Papa Tim!" Whether it was a surprise tackle or pushing them on the swing he built just for them, these playful moments brought immense joy to his life, and his love for them will forever be remembered.
He worked for 43 years at Carolina Power & Lighting, now Duke Energy, where he was deeply respected for his dedication and hard work. Tim considered his coworkers as family, often singing the praises of his team members at home, especially his supervisor, Marcus Williams. The family is grateful for all the support he provided throughout this process.
A lifelong fan of the NC State Wolfpack, Tim’s loyalty to his team was unwavering — you would never catch him in blue! He was an active member of Cool Springs Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and strength. Tim’s love for the outdoors was boundless. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, gardening, and spending time with his youngest daughter, Hunter’s, animals. He could often be found at Preston Farm feeding the chickens and bringing special treats to Bruschetta, the cow, a routine he treasured.
Tim was also an avid golfer and had a remarkable achievement earlier this year when he hit his first hole-in-one, a moment he cherished. He had a generous spirit, always sharing the fruits of his garden with family and friends, and his love for life was contagious.
Tragically, Tim passed away on November 18, 2024, while riding his bicycle after work during an outage in Hartsville, SC. His family takes comfort in knowing that he was doing something he loved in his final moments.
Tim's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit of kindness, generosity, and love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to call him family or friend.
The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Cool Springs Baptist Church Monday, November 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A service celebrating Tim’s life will be held following at 1:00 PM at with Rev. Tim Burris officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery. There will be NO visitation at the family home.
