Thomas Edwin "Ed" Farrell Obituary

Thomas Edwin "Ed" Farrell
November 2, 1931 - October 15, 2025

Thomas Edwin (Ed) Farrell went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2025, at the age of 93. Ed was born on November 2, 1931, in Sanford, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend William Clay and Beulah Farrell, and by his brother, Bill Farrell.

Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lois Farrell, and by their three children: Mary Beth, Cathy, and Mark and daughter in law Julie. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren-Jacob, Michael, and Alex Neis, and Kyla, Elise, Ethan, and Adeline Farrell-who brought him great joy throughout his life.

Ed attended Duke University and Harvard Medical School, completing his medical internship with the U.S. Army at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco. It was there that he met a young Army nurse from Litchfield, Minnesota, who would become the love of his life. Ed and Lois were married on November 22, 1959.

After several moves with the Army, they settled in Golden Valley, Minnesota, where Ed worked as a radiologist at North Memorial Medical Center. They quickly found a spiritual home at Crystal Evangelical Free Church (now New Hope Church), where they faithfully served for many decades. Ed served on the elder board and taught numerous adult Sunday school classes, leaving a lasting impact through his godly wisdom, humility, generosity, and good humor.

Ed cherished time with his family at their cabin on Lake Sylvia, where he spent over 40 years "fishing"-though more often baiting hooks and helping grandchildren untangle lines than catching fish himself. While fishing was his favorite pastime, his true passion was following Jesus' call in Matthew 4:19: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Throughout his life, Ed devoted himself to caring for others-physically as a physician and spiritually as a mentor and teacher. His deepest desire was for people to know and love the Jesus whom he faithfully served.

Ed's life was a reflection of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and a heart for service. His family rejoices that he is now home with his Savior.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday October 23rd, at 11 AM visitation at 10 AM at New Hope Church, 4225 Gettysburg Ave, New Hope, MN 55428. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Camp Shamineau or New Hope Church.

Burial will be held at Zion Christian Church, 23 Zion Church Road, Sanford, North Carolina on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 3:00 PM (the Sunday before Thanksgiving).
