Thomas Wesley Cables of Sanford, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 5, after a long illness. Thomas was born in Winsted, CT, February 23, 1947, to Luvia (Ingham) Cables and Cecil Cables of Canton, CT.
Thomas was a 1965 graduate of Canton High School. He was employed by Hitchcock Chair prior to working as a lead mechanic for Metropolitan District Commission Barkhamsted, CT where he was employed for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He enjoyed being a member of the Winsted, CT Elks Club as well as the Elks Club in Sanford, NC. Through the years Tom enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family on his farm in Canton, CT. He took pride in training his Springer Spaniels for field trials. He took 7th place with his prize Springer, Jasper, in a national competition in Nebraska.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Diane (Schaar) Cables, a son Jayme Cables and wife Michele of Rutland, Vermont, a stepson Kenneth Jacques of Sanford, NC, grandchildren Kendra, Kaylee, Brayden, and Abby as well as several nieces, nephews, special cousins and friends, as well as his devoted Springer, Toby.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Daniel Cables of New Canaan, CT and stepson Stephen Jacques of Northfield, CT.
