Teresa Ann (Maddox) Gurkin

Teresa Maddox Gurkin, age 58, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Lee County on April 27, 1962 to the late Ira Edwin Maddox and Barbara Kirby Maddox.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Becky Maddox; paternal grandmother, Virginia Maddox; maternal grandmother, Lucille Kirby; one aunt and two uncles.  Teresa was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church where she served in the Children’s Ministry program, church choir and United Methodist Women.  She worked for many years in the deli at Winn-Dixie which is where she met her husband and love of her life.  She enjoyed working crossword and word search puzzles.

Teresa is survived by her husband of thirty-two years, Alan Gurkin; brother, Ronnie Maddox; special niece, Heather Ann Maddox; sister-in-law, Vicky Self; two nieces, Jennifer and Michelle; five aunts; three uncles and her furry friend, Princess.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
