Obituary

Sylvia Joy Howard, 77, of Sanford, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.  Sylvia was a longtime resident of Lee County with roots growing up in Fuquay-Varina.  Sylvia is the wife of the late Stanley Howard of Sanford.  She was a longtime member of Jonesboro Height Baptist Church and choir member.  Before her retirement, she served many years as a Certified Medical Assistant in Family Practice and Ob/Gyn.  In addition to being an incredible mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, she was a dedicated servant in her church.  She enjoyed spending lots of quality time with the family along with traveling, growing lovely flowers in her yard, spending time at the beach, and playing canasta.

Sylvia is survived by her children and grandchildren: Daughter Terrie and husband James “Jimmy” R. Wilkins, Jr.; Son Ed Jones and his wife Robin, grandson Tanner and his wife Becca; Step-Daughters Denise and her husband Chris Pennell, son Austin Hall; Lisa and her husband Rolando Molina, daughters Somer and Adria; Carla and her  husband Chip Blickensderfer, children Natalie and Luke; and Step-Son Jason and his wife Heather Howard, children Aiden, Kendell, Parker, and Maddox.  She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Howard, her father and mother, Rufus Wilson Moore, Letha Pleasant Moore and brother Eddie Moore, all of Fuquay-Varina and grandson Joshua Jones of Raleigh.

Because of unprecedented times during the health pandemic, the love we have for all of you and what you mean to us, especially to Sylvia, and to keep everyone safe, there will be a private graveside service for the immediate family at Baptist Chapel Church on Friday, June 12th with the Reverend Dr. Calvin Sayles officiating and music accompanied by Denise and Chris Pennell.

Sylvia will lie in state at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Friday, June 12th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Family will not be present so please feel free to come by the funeral home if you feel safe coming out and you can wear a mask at your own discretion.

Instead of a formal service, the family is planning to have a floating “Celebration of Life” reception for Sylvia on her birthday, December 20, 2020, in the wake of Christmas, to honor her favorite holiday and the birth of our Savior.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church, 316 West Main Street, Sanford, NC 27332, Christian United Outreach Center (CUOC) at PO Box 2217, Sanford, NC 27331, or Family Promise, 2302 Woodland Ave., Sanford, NC 27330.
