Steven Wilkins, age 60, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at his home.
He was born in the Bronx, New York on November 6, 1963 to the late Willie Wilkins and Marie Pitts Wilkins. Steven was an Army veteran and retired after 22 years of service. He received his BA Degree in Psychology and African American Studies from UNC-Greensboro.
A man who spent his life bringing joy and laughter to others. Whether a child who wanted to play, or an elder he dept close to his heart, his sense of humor created precious memories.
His love for music remained constant in his life, and surely as the heavens heard of his arrival, we take a moment to believe and visualize Luther and Minnie embracing him with song.
A man with a commanding disposition who could not be swayed by groupthink or those with fairweather values, Steven prided himself on remaining sharp, witty and committed to expressing himself. His conversational endurance could have you in an exchange with him for hours on end, and in the end, it’s those seemingly unimportant encounters that hold the most value in our hearts as we remember his precious life in the days and years to come.
Steven is survived by his wife Billye Wilkins; step-daughter Chantell Brimmage; grandchildren Daija White, Michael White, Emmad Hargraves; siblings Tracy Wilkins, Veronica “Peachie” Wilkins, Jeffrey “Butch” Wilkins and LaShawn Pitts.
The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
A committal service will be held at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC 28310, on February 5, 2024 at 12:00 PM.
