Shirley Carroll Calendine, 87, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 9, 1938, in Lee County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Lewis Carroll and Bonnie Ruth Holder Carroll. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Shirley’s life was marked by unwavering love for her family and steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Shirley’s greatest joy was found in caring for and supporting her family. She lived each day with a quiet strength and selflessness that reflected her deep devotion to those she loved. Her children and grandchildren were her pride, and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with warmth, kindness, and encouragement.
Her faith in Christ guided her throughout her life. Shirley was a woman of prayer, grace, and generosity, and she touched many lives through her example of humility and compassion. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love that will live on in her family and all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Calendine; three sisters, Hazel Roloff, Jeanne Perdue, and Janice Baker; and seven brothers: Lynn, Malcolm, Melvin, Donald, Clyde Jr., John, and Boyce Carroll.
She is survived by her children, Kelley Jo Desjarlais and Jay Calendine, and five cherished grandchildren: Cadi Vines (Erique), Ian Calendine, Daniel Desjarlais, Christian Desjarlais, and Jamie Calendine.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. A private burial service will follow. Friends and family are welcome to visit on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 1901 Beachwood Drive.
Shirley will be remembered as a woman of strong faith, unwavering devotion, and boundless love for her family. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her legacy a testament to the goodness of God.
