Samuel "Sammy" Arnold Cotten

Samuel Arnold Cotten, age 80, of Sanford, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born in Harnett County on August 21, 1938, to the late John Allen Cotton and Mary Edna Harrington Cotton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Cotton and a sister, Betty Hurley.   Sammy graduated from Deep River High School in 1956. He was a life-long member of Flat Springs Baptist Church where he enjoyed his weekly fellowship with members of the WC Harward and James Bridges Sunday School Class.  Sammy worked for many years at Cornell Dubilier and he also worked at City Auto Parts. 

He is survived by his wife, Irene Cotten; son, Greg Cotten and wife, Patricia of Cameron; step-son, John Woodson of Virginia; three step-daughters, Sandra Weldon and husband, Bill of Sanford, Debbie Woodson of Sanford, Virginia Fulmer and husband, Buren of Broadway; two brothers, Bill Cotten and wife, Shirley of Sanford; Steve Cotten and wife, Emma of Sanford; one sister, JoAnn Thomas of Sanford; one grandchild, Lyndsey Edwards; five step-grandchildren, Whitney Atkins, Kyle Fulmer, Caleb Leslie, Joshua Weldon and Chelsey Cagle; two great grandsons, Drake and Dawson Edwards; four step great-grandchildren, Hank, Lily and Waylon Atkins and Ivey Weldon.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough officiating.  The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
