Samuel Franklin Wheeler, 84, was born in Gastonia, NC to Franklin and Pauline Wheeler. He passed away on January 9, 2026 at First Health Hospice Home in Pinehurst, NC.
Frank attended Wilmington College and started an almost 50-year career beginning as an engineer for a North Carolina based company building highways. The family lived in various states then moved to Sanford where Frank accepted an engineering/estimating job with Sanford Grading Company, later known as Sanford Contractors, Inc.
Frank was a member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church, loved his Lord and Savior, and loved going to the Christmas Eve service most. He was also a Mason and a Shriner.
Frank was a devoted husband and loved his family. He loved fishing, yard work, and talking and joking with friends, family and everyone he met. He never met a stranger. He often started a conversation with “Where are you from?” or “Whatcha eating?”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie, his daughters Katherine Wheeler and Kimberly King (Kenneth), his grandsons Jackson Schafer, Benjamin Schafer, and Coen King, several cousins, many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill, a sister Daphne, and a sister Nancy.
The family would like to thank Western Wake Hospital and First Health Hospice for their wonderful care. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses.
A memorial service will be held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Matt Martin officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM (prior to the service) and other times at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or First Health Hospice of Pinehurst (251 Campground Road, West End, NC 28327).
