Ruth (Gunter) Cole Fisher

Ruth Gunter Cole Fisher, age 89, of Sanford, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Wake Med Hospital in Cary.

She was born in Lee County on October 17, 1933 to the late James E. Gunter and Lizzie Thomas Gunter.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wade Cole; son Tim Cole; grandson Benjamin Cole; and all of her siblings: Lula Gunter, Ruby Coker, Annie Lee Benoit, Mary Williams, Joe Gunter, James Gunter, Harvey Gunter, Lewis Gunter and Franklin Holt.

Ruth was born and raised in Lee County and attended Deep River High School.  She was an active and faithful member at Lee’s Chapel Christian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, bookkeeper and choir director during her younger years.  She and her husband Steve loved to travel. They made it to 48 states and other places all over the world.  She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, of 21 years, Steve Fisher; son Donald Cole; daughter-in-law Patty Cole; grandchildren Timothy Cole, Olivia Cole; great-grandchildren Jalissa Cole, Jordyn Cole, Leah Driggers and Caleb Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lee’s Chapel Christian Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Martin and Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow at Moncure United Methodist Church Cemetery.
