Ruth (Carter) Carter

Ruth (Carter) Carter, age 90, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lee County, NC on April 2, 1936 to the late James Frank Carter and Mary Russell Eades Carter.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herman Lee Carter, Jr; granddaughter Catherine Nicole Trembley; siblings Odell Carter (Betty Jean), Mildred Thompson (Jimmy), Charlie Carter (Geneva), Lucille Hall (Royce), Ernest Lee Carter (Nancy), Pete Carter and Lois Wilson (Halford).

Ruth is survived by her children Faith Butler (Johnny), David Carter (Gail); grandchildren Lindsay Gilstrap (Ken), Charleton “Roc” Carter (Candice), Ashley Knight and great-grandchildren Riley Trembley, Julian Trembley, Dylan Gilstrap, Rene Gilstrap, Gavin Moore, Gabe Moore.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Wilma Carter.  Ruth also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who she loved dearly and her beloved cat Fred.

She attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and worked many years for Coty.   Ruth was a talented seamstress.  She made everything from wedding dresses, jeans, curtains, coats and numerous other things for family and friends.  She enjoyed gardening, growing her plants and canning her fresh vegetables.   Ruth also sold her plants out of her greenhouse.  Most importantly, Ruth was a kind and loving lady and her family and friends loved her in return.  She will be missed immensely.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 1. 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Baker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
