Russell Webster Hunt, age 79, of the Deep River Community, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his home.
He was born in Lee County, NC on March 8, 1942 to the late Melba Thomas Hunt and Margaret Zelma “Sally” Wicker Hunt Mayfield. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Grayson William “Bill” Mayfield and sister Margaret Frances Hunt. Russ was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and served our country in the United States Army, stationed in England at Menwith Hill. He was a code reader in the secret service department. He fell in love with the country and its people and he was able to visit England as much as he could. He was retired after 30 plus years of service with the US Post Office of Sanford, then worked 20 plus years as a courier for Cardinal Health. He enjoyed watching golf on TV but his greatest love was for his wife, children and family. He was a wonderful husband and daddy.
He is survived by his wife, of almost 54 years, Linda Hedgpeth Hunt; children Dennis Hunt and girlfriend Robin Elliott, Sarah Hunt Lyons and husband Roger Lyons, Jr., Mary Hunt Glines and husband Michael all of Sanford; siblings Thomas Edward Hunt and wife Barbara of Florida, Judith Marie Hunt Whetstone of Texas, Mary Mayfield Ashburn and husband Ed of Sanford; sister Elaine Mayfield of SC, brother Grayson William Mayfield, Jr. and wife Dee of SC; grandchildren Misty Lee Powers and husband Lance, John Hunt and partner Cody Moyer, Bryson Lyons, Maddoc Glines, Maggie Glines, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough officiating. The family will receive friends, following the service, in the church fellowship hall and other times at the family home.
