Roy Wilson Garner

Roy Wilson Garner, age 85, of Sanford, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, surrounded by family.

He was born in Harnett County to the late William Claude Garner and Esther Wood Garner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Daniel Garner; sons, Thomas Roy Garner, Sr., and James Wilson Garner; sister, Frances Holt and husband, Bud; daughters-in-law, Betty Garner and Michelle Garner and grandson, Christopher Patterson. Roy retired as plant manager from Gaylord Brothers Furniture Company.  In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching softball, auctions, and NASCAR.  He was a people person and loved spending time with family and friends.  He will truly be missed.

Roy is survived by his wife of 6 years, Alesia Gunter Garner; children, Sandy Stone, Pete Garner, Mandy Garner Buchanan and husband, B.J., and Mickey Garner, all of Sanford; brother, Clyde Garner and wife, Barbara of Sanford; step-children, Scott Thomas of Bunnlevel and Crystal Thomas of Spring Lake; 13 grandchildren, Tammy Johnson and Missy Johnson and husband, Doug, James Garner, II, Jamie Savage and husband, Jason, Kelly Stone, Tommy Garner, Jr., and wife, Brandy, Amber, Ashlee and Daniel Garner, Crystal Holmes and husband, Jerry, Samantha and Zachary Garner, and Candice Hall; 28 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his dog, Nila who was his constant companion.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. George Stallings officiating.  Burial will follow in Broadway Town Cemetery.  The family will also be receiving friends at the family home, 6320 Bradley Rd., Sanford.
