Ronald Martin Obituary

Ronnie Martin of Lillington, NC passed away peacefully in his home on October 10, 2020 at the age of 62.  Ronnie was affectionately known as a husband, father, brother and friend.

Ronnie was born on February 28, 1958 in Roxboro, NC to the late William Henry Martin, Sr. and Lois Davis Martin.  As the son of a sharecropper, agriculture and a love for watching crops grow was in his blood.  As a young married couple, he and his wife, Mary farmed tobacco in Lee County for several years; however, in 1996 they transitioned to produce and are commonly know as “the strawberry folks”.  Owning and operating Just-A-Growing Produce just outside of Lillington was his pride and joy.  His fondest memories include working with his family to build the produce business and serve the amazing community who supported the farm along the way.

Although farming was his passion Ronnie worked several other jobs over the years where he met life long friends including Jonesboro Super Service, King Roofing, Mid-State Ford, Motor Truck and Equipment, Sanford Rent All, and Carolina Trace.  Ronnie was a member of Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder on the session and thoroughly enjoyed doing for others.  He especially loved to help with community benefits and loved to see joy brought to others.  He is known by many for his loving nature, kind heart, and giving spirit but most importantly his sense of humor.  Ronnie could brighten your mood just by walking into a room and he always knew the right thing to say or when a joke needed to be cracked.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents William Henry Martin, Sr. and Lois Davis Martin; his sister Marie Pruitt and his brothers Ray Martin and William Henry “Punk” Martin, Jr.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Mary Morris Martin; his two daughters, the apples of his eye, Geneva Martin Bonilla and husband Mario of Siler City and Jessica Martin Duncan and husband Mack of Shawboro; brothers Cecil Martin and wife Virginia of Bailey, and Dennis Martin and wife Marie of Sanford; sisters Shirley Duncan and husband Ray of Timberlake, Pam Harrington and husband Max of Sanford and a plethora of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Doug Houston presiding.  The family will receive friends at the family home.  The body can be viewed at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1302, Broadway, NC 27505 or Currituck County High School FFA Chapter, 4203 Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC 27917.
