Roger W. Norman, Jr. of Cocoa, Florida died on April 12, 2022, at his home.
Roger, or “RW”, is survived by his sister Rebecca Adams and her husband Bill of Blue Ridge, Virginia; his brother Sam Norman and wife Cathy of Pinehurst; his brother Ed Norman and wife Kathy of Sanford; his brother-in-law Jerry Burton of Smithfield, and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. He is preceded in death by his parents Roger and Mary Norman of Minter School Road, Sanford, and his sister Mary Ellen Burton of Smithfield.
RW was born on November 9 of 1943 in Sanford. He is a graduate of Sanford Central High School, class of 1962, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education. Following his college graduation, he moved to Florida and began teaching elementary school in Brevard County; he taught in Merritt Island and Titusville until he retired. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Cocoa where he sang in the choir and served for several years as the youth director. He described himself as “teacher, a cook, and a wannabe artist”.
In North Carolina, a Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 21 at Rocky Fork Christian Church, Sanford NC, with the Rev. Beth Burton-Williams officiating. The service will be followed by a brief service in the Rocky Fork cemetery; the family will receive visitors in the Rocky Fork Fellowship Hall following the services. In Florida, a Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, June 11 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Cocoa, Florida, with the Rev. John Bender officiating.
