Robert Byron McGehee

Robert Byron McGehee, age 79, of Sanford, NC, passed away Monday, June 21, 2022 at Wake Med Cary Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lee County on July 26, 1942 to the late William Patrick McGehee and Alma Jackson McGehee.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, Billy Ray McGehee.

Robert served our country in the United States Army, stationed in Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star Medal “V” Device and was an Army Medic in the First Infantry Division.  He was a faithful member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class.  Robert worked with Eastern Décor, Avondale, Allied Fibers, Roberts Company and A Few Nice Things Frame Shop.  He was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Sarah McNeill McGehee; sons Robert Neal McGehee and wife Kelly, Kevin McGehee and wife Judith all of Sanford; brothers William Larry McGehee and wife Jean of Sanford, Thomas Patrick McGehee and wife Barbara of Ether; and grandchildren Robert Neal McGehee, Jr., Amber Michelle McGehee, Brandon McGehee, Nathan McGehee; step-grandchildren Tyler Boone, Bethany Vivas and great-grandchildren Aurora Boone and Emma Grace McGehee.

A funeral service will be held at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough officiating on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services and other times at the family home.
