Robert Alex Griffin, age 88, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
He was born in Harnett County to the late John Wesley Griffin and Lottie Byrd Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Ernestine Harrington Griffin and brother John Wesley Griffin, Jr. He worked at Thomas Oil and later at Heins/Alltel Telephone company where he retired after 26 years of employment. He also served in the US Army. Robert had a love of people and never met a stranger, the name “Rabbit” was well deserved because he was continuously on the go whether it was helping JD McDuffie as a pit crew member, bowling, volunteering in the 60’s as a volunteer policeman or just getting in the car and driving around visiting others. You could also find him by the nearest fishing hole. He loved his church and helping out with the yearly barbecue chicken sale.
He is survived by his children Rhonda Whaley (Aaron) of Spring Lake and Ernest Griffin (Cindy) of Broadway; sisters Imogene Del Conte of Fayetteville and Doris Bridges of Sanford; special friend Sara Lamm and her family of Sanford and several step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10:00 am until 10:50 am at Holly Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Scott Yow officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
