Obituary

Ricky Lee Matthews, age 68, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Lee County, NC on September 3, 1954 to the late John Roy Matthews and Virginia Mae Frye Matthews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Robert Wayne Matthews and brother John Roy Matthews, Jr. (Phyllis).

Ricky worked 39 years for Norfolk Southern Railroad Company and was a member of the Sanford Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and absolutely loved his granddaughters.  They were the light of his life. 

He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Jo Kennedy Matthews; children Ricky Joe Matthews, Lee Aaron Matthews; brother Larry W. Matthews (Gwyn); sister Carolyn Matthews Edwards (Jack); and granddaughters Autumn Star Matthews and Nevaeh Skye Mathews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Buffalo Cemetery with Pastor Michael Horton officiating.  There will be no formal visitation.
