Richard Neal Manchen, age 64, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at FirstHealth Hospice House.
He was born in Los Angeles County, CA on April 26, 1961 to the late Jack Manchen and Erma Loene Manchen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Richard “Ricky” Neal Manchen, II.

During his military career, he participated in Operation Urgent Fury and served aboard the USS Trenton while stationed in Grenada and USS Dahlgren during the Gulf War, as well as the USS Gridley. His time in the Navy reflected his unwavering commitment to duty, discipline, and the defense of his nation.
Beyond his military service, Richard was a man of simple joys and strong passions. He loved fishing and he cherished every moment spent with his family. Known for his warm hospitality, he enjoyed backyard barbecues, bringing together friends and loved ones with good food and laughter.
A dedicated student of military history, he spent countless hours reading and learning about the past, honoring those who served before him. He also held a deep respect for his constitutional rights, particularly the Second Amendment, and took pride in maintaining his personal collection.
