Pauline Harton Obituary

Pauline Dowdy Harton, age 98, of Sanford, NC, died Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Lee County, NC, on February 5, 1922 to the late John Dowdy and Hattie Womack Dowdy.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Duke Harton and siblings Frank Lewis Dowdy, Annie Lee Dowdy Johnson and Margaret Sue Dowdy.  Pauline graduated from Deep River High School and worked 21 years for the US Postal Service at the Colon Road Post Office.  She was the longest-living member of Turner’s Chapel Church and was once a very active member; serving as Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher.  She loved her church quilting parties and made beautiful quilts for her family to enjoy for years to come.  Pauline was also the church treasurer for many years. 

She is survived by her son Gordon Harton and wife Marilee of Overland Park, Kansas; daughters Betty H. Wilder and husband Milton of Snow Camp, NC, Dorothy H. Sloan and husband Sammy of Sanford, NC; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Garden Mausoleum at Lee Memory Gardens with Rev. Patrick Neal and Rev. Milton Wilder officiating.  There will be no formal visitation but everyone is welcome to come by the funeral home to pay their respects Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning.
