Vernon Elirce Riggins, 71, stepped into the arms of his Savior on April 1, 2026.
Known to many as "Pastor," Vernon’s life was a testament to his deep faith. He led the congregation at Plank Road Church of God of Prophecy for more than 18 years, where he was a constant source of strength, support, and hope. While his ministry was his calling, his family was his greatest joy. He and his wife, Brenda, whom he loved with all his heart, were married for 52 beautiful years, They loved nothing more than going on trips to their favorite place Mt. Airy. He was Papa to 3 amazing grandkids and was always ready for "the next fun adventure," creating memories that his grandkids will carry in their hearts forever. And as a son, he loved nothing more than being there for his mother, taking care of her with the same devotion she had shown him all his life. Vernon leaves behind a community made better by his kindness and a family who will forever be inspired by his devotion to the Lord.
Vernon was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Blansette Riggins, and is survived by his mother, Luvern Stoots Riggins, wife, Brenda Riggins; his two daughters, Tanya Clemmer (Everette), and Amy Poulos (Jay). He was a proud Papa to Chloe Clemmer, Alana Clemmer, and Gavin Holden. He is also survived by his siblings, Terry Riggins (Janice), Sherry Riggins, Tim Riggins (Jeanette) and Chris Riggins (Missy), along with a multitude of nieces and nephews and extended family.
We invite family and friends to join us in honoring the life of Vernon Riggins. The service will be held on Monday, April 6th at Church of God of Prophecy, 2277 S. Plank Road, Sanford, NC 27330. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Cemetery.
