On August 5, 2024, Pamela Lee Walker Blume passed from her earthly presence to everlasting life. Pam was a deeply committed Christian who lived a vibrant lifetime of joy, beauty, creativity, faith, community and wisdom.
Pam was born May 4, 1952, in Newport News, Virginia to Ted Murl and Shirley Keller Walker. She grew up in the area with her parents and two younger siblings, along with her large, extended family. She was a National Honor Society member at Denbigh High School and graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College with an associate degree in graphic design.
In 1972, she married Allan Blume, who was her loving husband of 52 years. While Allan attended seminary in Fort Worth, Texas they had their son, Jeremy, before briefly serving in Oklahoma and ultimately settling in North Carolina – residing in Charlotte, Boone, Cary and Chapel Hill.
Through the years she used her creative eye and talent in graphic design for several companies and non-profits. She served and consulted in numerous music and women’s ministries, while also spending eight years as a trustee of the International Mission Board and several years on the board of The Hope Center. She served on committees for the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
She assisted in the birth and growth of Embrace Women’s Ministry in North Carolina. In 1990, she received the North Carolina Homemaker of the Year award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Pam was known for her zeal for life, infectious joy, quick wit, gracious hospitality and her love of music, photography, art, cooking, animals and genealogy. A consummate connector and gatherer of family and friends, she delighted in hosting those she loved. An avid reader of history, her love, care and concern for others was obvious to everyone she met.
As a committed wife, Pam was a diligent partner in ministry with her husband in every church they served. She used her gifts to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music, drama, Bible studies, women’s ministries and mission trips to Moldova, South Korea, Nigeria, Turkey and Pakistan. One close friend described Pam as “an unusually bright person who brought so much fun and joy into the world.”
Being raised in the Tidewater area, she often spoke of her love for being near the water. In the last decade, she found peace and comfort visiting the ocean as often as she could with family – delighting in God’s natural beauty on the shore.
Pam is most remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a beloved family member and an encouraging friend to many. She is survived by her husband Allan, son Jeremy, sister Patti, brother Kevin, sister-in-law Teresa, several aunts and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
