Maude Gaynelle Harrington Maloney, age 86, of Sanford, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
She was born on December 12, 1939 to the late Gordon Harrington and Margaret Walker McNeill Harrington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William A. Maloney; daughter Jennifer Roberts Lawson and sisters Mary Edith Harrington McCullough and Lucille Harrington Gross.
A proud graduate of Boone Trail High School, Maude was a spirited cheerleader during her school years, carrying that same warmth and enthusiasm throughout her life. Her faith was an important part of who she was. A devoted member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, she was deeply involved in church life and found great joy singing in the church choir. Maude enjoyed many hobbies that kept her active and connected with friends. She loved bowling and was a member of two bowling leagues, where she built lasting friendships and many fond memories. She also took great pride in her yard and flower garden, spending countless hours nurturing the beauty around her home. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping for pottery and vintage Fenton glass. These outings were especially meaningful when shared with her sister, Peggy. The two were inseparable—truly “two peas in a pod”—and their bond brought them both endless laughter and companionship.
She is survived by her children Ken Roberts (Marie) of Broadway, Kimberly Wilson of Broadway and Cindy Alexander of Sanford; sister Peggy Danielsen of Sanford; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and two step-sons William A. Maloney, Jr. (Catherine) of Fayetteville. and Arnold Maloney (Melissa) of Topsail.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM At Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Seymour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank Liberty Hospice and her caretaker Cathy Paschal for the support and tender loving care extended to their mother.
