Mary Frances Simmons, age 90, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Westfield Rehabilitation & Health Center.
She was born in Surry County on August 1, 1934 to the late Jessie Caleb Simmons and Susie Mae Foppiano Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by children Diane, Willard York, Rufus Dean Johnson, Kaye Willard Harward and Rosebud Willard and siblings Annie Simmons Nelson and Harold Simmons. Frances was a woman of grace, warmth, and unwavering faith. A lifelong member of Hillview Christian Assembly, her life was a testament to the values of compassion, devotion, and service. Her strong faith guided her in all that she did and served as an inspiration to those around her. She was a true lover of nature and found great joy in her garden. Whether tending to blooming flowers or nurturing her vegetables, she had a gift for bringing life and beauty to the world around her. She loved to sing, often filling her home and church with music that lifted spirits and brought joy.
More than anything, Frances cherished time spent with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose presence made every gathering more special.
Frances is survived by children Dale Willard (Libby) of Mt. Airy, Glenda Hatley (Darnell) of Sanford, Carolyn Carrier of Mt. Airy, Janet Langley (Greg) of Sanford, Velvet Walker (Johnny) of Sanford and Shirley Hicks of Sanford; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Hillview Christian Assembly with Pastor Ray Boden officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
