Marjorie Holt, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 6, 2022. Marjorie was known for her love for the Lord, her family and children of all ages. She was born in Harnett County and met the love of her life, the late Edward “Ed” David Holt, a farm boy, from Lee County in her early twenties. Before getting married and raising three children, Marjorie graduated from Flora Macdonald College with a teaching degree.
She was born in Harnett County on February 6, 1933 to the late Oscar Bruce McNeill and Frances Elizabeth Buchanan McNeill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Leslie McNeill, Wilbur McNeill, Otis McNeill, Winfred McNeill, Fulton McNeill and sister Geneva McNeill Pilson.
Marjorie was a veteran school teacher of 30 years. When she retired she was a fourth grade teacher at Deep River School. Her love for the children and their education was unsurpassed. The parents and children alike knew she was genuine and could always count on her to care for them as if they were her own family.
Marjorie was indeed a faithful servant of the Lord her entire life. A lifetime member of Zion Christian Church, Marjorie taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was an active participant in most every church event. One of her passions was caring for the seniors and shut-ins. She routinely went to the local care facility and visited with folks, singing and sharing the Gospel.
Having spent much of her life in Deep River, Marjorie was known to be witty but, at home, was the disciplinarian and made sure all toed the line. That being said, she equally prayed over all and ensured her love of the Lord was seen in her daily walk.
Marjorie loved to read and make silk flower arrangements for her family, church and friends within the community.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Holt, son Rodney Holt, daughter Sheila Holt Thompson and her husband Alex, 2 grandchildren, Meagan Thompson Leiton and her husband Will, Jared Thompson and his wife Kato, and 1 great grandchild, Liam Leiton.
