Marie (Douglas) Ayers

Marie Douglas Ayers, age 81, of Sanford, NC, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at her home, with her family by her side.

She was born in Harnett County, NC on May 3, 1943 to the late Charlie Laurin Douglas and Ruth Howard Douglas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Sammy Ray O’Quinn; second husband Clifton Bryant Ayers and brothers Howard Lee Douglas, John Laurin Douglas and daughter-in-law Susan Ayers.  Marie was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked in the geriatric field of nursing.  She worked at several nursing homes and retired from Pinelake Health & Rehab Center.  Marie enjoyed going to casinos and playing the slot machines.  She also enjoyed cruising with her family.  Her favorite fur-baby was “Pepi”.

She is survived by children Carol Oakley of Cameron, Sammy O’Quinn of Sanford, Brian Ayers of Florida, step-son Darryll Ayers (Susan) of Hartsville, SC, step-daughter Deborah Matthews (Barry) of Sanford; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Ephesus Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne O’Quinn officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends, following the services, at Marie’s home, 1376 White Hill Road, Sanford, NC 27332.
