Mamie Barber Obituary

Mamie Lee Fogleman Barber, age 97, of Sanford, NC, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Central Carolina Hospital, with her family by her side.

She was born in Chatham County on September 7, 1927 to the late Henry June Fogleman and Flora Lee Windham Fogleman Brown.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 67 years, Alfred Barber; step-father Herman Brown; brother George Fogleman; sisters Naomi Doby, Joyce Allen and step-brother Herman Monroe Brown.  Mamie worked at Mr. Thurman Nance’s Candy Store and Mack’s Dime Store.  She also worked as a seamstress at W. Kory Company but her most treasured job was being a loving housewife and mother.

Mamie attended Zion Christian Church as long as she could attend and always tried to keep up with the people and activities of the church even though in later years, she was unable to attend.  She loved her church family and liked to call different ones on their birthdays and sing happy birthday to them.  She was so blessed with knowing and loving the Lord.  She thanked Him every day for the day HE had given her.

She was a strong lady, loving mother and always cared what was happening with everyone else.  She always told us all “she would try” and that is all anyone can ask of anyone.

She loved all her grands and great-grands and loved getting calls from them in her later years to keep up with them.

When you have a Mom who loved the Lord and showed it every day, you are truly blessed and it helps you with your walk with the Lord.

She loved the ladies that helped care for her when she was at home and they grew in love and companionship.  When she lost her eyesight it has hard and wished she could see.  We know now she has that heavenly sight and is home with all those gone before her.  Thanks to the many caregivers and staff at Sanford Health & Rehab Facility.  Mom loved people and she loved 97 years on this earth to finally go home to be with her Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her children Wayne Barber and wife Linda, Gail Hickman and husband Donnie, Susan Brigman and husband Cecil, Dale Barber and wife Dana; brother Floyd Junior Fogleman; step-sister Sylvia Ann Rumpca; grandchildren Heather Hickman, Tenille Mitcham (Tim), Jamie Brigman (Richard Davis), C.J. Brigman (Bridgette), Jennifer Taylor (Britt), Lauren Spencer (Phil), Emily Barber (Jacob Allen), Brittany Speight (Preston), Justin Keaton (Lauren), Christopher Keaton (Brittany); 18 great-grandchildren Collin, Colby, Kennah, Jackson, Cassidy, Isabel, Jocelyn, Magnus, Jayson, Chase, Harper, Caleb, Kennedy, Jaxon, Tristan, Bryson, Saxon, Eleanor; 5 great-great grandchildren Loralie, Tristan, Kerstan, Khloe, Brayden and 2 great-great-great grandchildren Cecil and Erbin.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Zion Christian Church with Rev. Ward Haas and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the services in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Gail and Donnie Hickman.
