Lucy Margaret (Burns) Thomas

Lucy Margaret Burns Thomas, 89 of Sanford, NC (formerly of Creedmoor, NC) passed away March 18, 2018 at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sanford, NC.

Lucy was born April 23, 1928 in Siler City, NC and was the youngest child of Len Burns and Mattie Exline Seagroves Burns. She was preceded in death by all her siblings: John Franklin Burns, Edwin Leonard Burns, William Earnest Burns, Lula Belle Burns Jones, Irene Burns Key, Curtis L. Burns and Calvin M. Burns.

Lucy was also preceded in death by her husband Curtis Patrick Thomas, Sr. (married 11-5-44) and was mother to five children. She is survived by those children: Curtis Patrick Thomas, Jr. and wife Michele Thomas of Bear Creek, NC; Linda Thomas Wilson and husband Larry Franklin Wilson of Sanford, NC; Mattie Dale Townsend of Polk City, FL; Kenneth L. Thomas and wife Barbara Wulff of Burnsville, NC; and Cynthia Fain and husband Terry Fain of Clarksville, VA.  Lucy is survived also by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family farmed for 12 years in Bear Creek, NC, then, moved to Hillsborough before moving to Creedmoor, NC in 1975. Lucy was a home-maker and was employed as Linen Manager at Murdoch Center, Butner, NC, before she retired. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Creedmoor, NC for 42 years and in January, 2016, moved to Sanford to live with Linda and Larry.  She was a current resident of Sanford Health and Rehabilitation, Sanford, NC.  Lucy’s passion was flowers and always had many of them growing in her yard and home. She loved going with her friends to visit those who were sick and to eat at Bojangles or go hear preaching and singing services.

The family will receive friends 1 pm until 2 pm, Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Eakes Funeral Home, 834 N Main St., Creedmoor, NC. The funeral will follow at 2:00 after visitation with Reverends Dr. Marc Tilley and Dr. Gary McCollough officiating. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Gardens behind Eakes Funeral Home.
