Lucille (Hughes) Angel

Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also and he praisith her.”

Lucille Hughes Angel, age 99, of Sanford, NC, died Saturday, March 16, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born November 23, 1924 to Ransom and Grizzella Capps Hughes.  She was born in Angier, NC and graduated from Angier High School.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Robert Monroe Angel.  They had five children and Ronnie (deceased, Laponda) and Steve passing four months apart in 1999.

Lucille worked in factories at Schniersons, Quality Mills, and Carnes.  She has three surviving children, Dennis Angel, Phyllis Watson (John); Donna Westbrook (preceded in death by Allen) and daughter-in-law Kathy Angel.

Her beloved grandchildren are Jacquelin Chance, Stephany Chance, Brian Angel, Mary Beth Wiltshire, Katherine Foster, Amie Thompson, Denise Davis, Melanie Quillen, Dennie Angel, Ashley Stirewalt, Rebecca Autry, Daniel Watson, Robby Westbrook and Betsy Westbrook.  She has twenty-three great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by sisters Christine Norris, Nellie Bass and Irene Silver; brothers Ulyss, J.B., R.H., Nelson, Talmadge and Bill Hughes.

She loved her family and her church, Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church.  She served many positions in the church and was a true servant and blessing to others.

Proverbs 31:30  “but a woman that fearith the Lord, shall be praised”.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Friday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Charland, Dr. Kevin Meadows and Rev. Chris Autry officiating.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery.
