Linda Jean (Matthews) Sessoms

Linda Jean Matthews Sessoms, age 80, of Sanford, NC, passed away after an extended illness at her home on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Jean was born in Lee County on July 20, 1945 to the late Joseph David Matthews and Eunice Elizabeth Thornal Matthews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Terry Matthews. 

Jean found joy in the simple and meaningful things. She enjoyed crafting and had a special talent for cake decorating. When her health allowed, she was an active member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Above all else, she was devoted to raising her family. She gave endlessly of herself, offering patience, encouragement, and unconditional love. Though illness changed the later years of her life, it never diminished her spirit or the love she held for her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Tommy; daughters Aimee Sessoms Thompson (Brian) and Jennifer Sessoms Johnson, all of Sanford; sisters Pat Allen of Sanford and Brenda Dinkins (Bernice) of Jonesville; brother Jerry Michael Matthews (Donnell) of Broadway and very special grandson Maddox Braiden Thompson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM at First Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Oldham and Rev. Greg Long officiating.  Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
