Linda King Obituary

Linda Nell Baker King, age 66, passed away Nov. 8. Born in Tachikawa, Japan, Linda lived in France and all around the U.S. with her military family before eventually settling down in Greenville, S.C. Linda received her training in physical therapy from Greenville Technical College and was employed at Liberty HomeCare in Sanford, NC from 1988 until her retirement in 2019. As a second job, she also worked as a therapist at St. Joseph Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst, NC as well as in various nursing homes in and around Lee County. She deeply loved her patients and worked hard to ensure their lives and health improved both during after her care.

Linda was the second oldest child of George and Texas Baker. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her sister Karen, and her brothers Roy and Skip. She is survived by her children Jessica King of Sanford, NC; Sean King of San Francisco, CA; and brother Randall Baker of Leesville, SC.

Linda loved to travel and experience new places and cultures. She was an adventurous soul that wanted to experience all that the world had to offer. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and finding new exciting recipes to cook. She had a heart for animals and often gave a home to dogs that her patients could no longer care for. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making dishes to share at fellowship meals at her church, Spring Lane Assembly in Sanford. She was active in her church and the women’s programs.

She loved the Appalachian Mountains and always relished any opportunity to return there. Some of her favorite experiences of her life were of hiking almost 700 miles on the Appalachian Trail over a period of four months as well as spending years living in an old cabin near the Nantahala River Gorge in Topton, NC.

A breast cancer survivor, Linda had beaten the disease two times before it returned in 2019. She was a valiant warrior in her fight and always kept her head held high with a smile on her face. She always enjoying going to the Relay for Life every year and supporting other survivors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Lane Assembly of God in Sanford, NC or to breast cancer research. Per her wishes, her ashes will be spread along the Appalachian Trail that she so loved and on the property of that old cabin in the mountains that she spent so many special years at.

The family would like to thank to all who loved and cared for Linda through her life.
