Our precious mother, Linda Keck Kelly, age 79 of the Deep River Township of Sanford, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, July 28, 2024. By her side were her loving husband of 61 years, Lewis David Kelly, her 3 children, Lisa Leslie, Larry Kelly, Lou Anne Griffin, son #2 Frank Griffin and 4 grandchildren Rachel Mann (Carson), Peyton Griffin, Jarrett Leslie, and Jacob Leslie.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Martha and Alton (Murph) Keck. Linda had 5 siblings, Peggy Riddle (Jack), Wayne Keck, dec. (Ann Keck), Dale Carpenter, Faye Boys, and Randy Keck (Flida Smith). 1 brother-in-law, Clifford Kelly (Eleanor Kelly, dec.), 1 sister-in-law Emma Cotton (Steve Cotton) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Flat Springs Baptist Church serving as a children’s Sunday School Teacher, a nursery worker who loved all of “her” babies, so much, and a long-term member of the Joy/Ora Bridges Women’s Sunday School class.
Linda was a homemaker from start of married life until her last child was in kindergarten, when she took a job at Deep River School as a teacher’s assistant, serving in several grades until her retirement in 1997.
Linda had many wonderful friends and enjoyed the game of Rook with 3 different clubs, one being a group of ladies from Deep River that she played Rook with for over 40 years, a family club, and a couples Rook club where she got Lewis to play.
Linda was known far and wide for her delicious cooking with her most requested items being Fried Apple Pies, Pecan Pie Mini Muffins, her homemade Vegetable Beef Soup, and Pound Cakes.
Linda’s family would like to thank all the loving family, friends and church family who came to visit, brought food, or most importantly prayed for us in the 8 years of Mom’s Alzheimer’s battle, but particularly in this last year since she has been under Hospice care.
We would also like to thank Dr. David Hipp of Pinehurst Medical Clinic and the physicians and staff of Gentiva Hospice for participating in our mothers’ care.
The funeral service will be held in the sanctuary of Flat Springs Baptist Church on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Gary McCollough officiating. There will be no graveside service. Visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall directly after the service, other times at the family home.
