Lester Merle Skinner

MSGT Lester Merle Skinner (USAF RET), 78, of Dinkens Dr, Sanford went home to be with The Lord on Friday, September 9th, 2022.

Les was born September 13th, 1943, to Reba Stark and Keith Skinner in Hutchinson, KS. He spent his adolescence in Pittsburg, CA with his father, who instilled in him a love for building and fixing projects. Les joined the USAF in 1965, honorably serving his country for 20 years, including tours in Vietnam and Greenland. Soon after his enlistment he met the love of his life, Joann Terry. They married April 4th, 1968. The two spent their lives traveling the country and raising their three children. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Joann’s hometown of Sanford. Les went on to work for Allied/Honeywell until retiring. The couple shared 42 wonderful years of marriage until Joann’s passing in 2010. Les was a loving and selfless husband, by her side until the end. He was later married to Ms. Jean Berryman in 2013, until her passing in 2022. He was an active member at Lemon Springs Baptist Church and with the Baptist Men’s Handyman Ministry, until a decline in health. Les was a family man, a beloved father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, lover of crossword puzzles, a skilled gardener, and handyman. In addition to his wife, Joann Terry Skinner and his parents he is preceded in death by a son Thomas Skinner and second wife Jean Berryman Skinner.

He is survived by son Terry Skinner, daughter Tandy Barbour and husband Mark, granddaughters Amber Skinner-Parker and husband Greg, Jessica Skinner, Erica Skinner, Autumn Skinner, grandson Amree Barbour, and six great-grandchildren all of Sanford; and one brother Jack Skinner and wife Kay of NE.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Lemon Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Caldwell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
