Lena (Autry) Womack Dawkins

Lena Autry Womack Dawkins, age 89, of Sanford, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Moore County, NC on December 25, 1930 to the late George Bidwell Autry and Verlie Simpson Autry.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Odell and Edward Autry.  Lena was a member of Juniper Springs Baptist Church where she served as a past Sunday School teacher and choir member.  She retired in 1992 after owning and operating Vogue Beauty Shop.  Lena enjoyed working in her yard and was known for her beautiful flowers.  She played cards and along with her husband Dan, did a lot of traveling in their RV.  Lena had lots of books and loved to read and cook for her family.  She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband Daniel “Dan” Washington Dawkins, Jr.; daughters Pamela Womack of Houston, Texas, Joy Womack Maddox and husband Ronnie of Broadway, NC; step-children Tony Daniel Dawkins of Roxboro, NC, Kristy Owens and husband Chip of Apollo Beach, FL; brothers Bill Autry and wife Joyce, Gene Autry and wife Bernice all of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters Carolyn Johnson of Cameron, NC, Janell Howington of Vass, NC; grandchildren Julie Maddox, Matthew Maddox and wife Carla; step-grandchildren Zachary Dawkins, Kelsey Dawkins, Gray Owens, Ashley Sells; two great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Emily Maddox and five step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Broadway Town Cemetery with Rev. Michael Hall and Dr. Gary McCollough officiating.  There will be no formal visitation.
