Larry Monroe Matthews

Larry Matthews, age 83, of Sanford, NC, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Harnett County, NC on July 21, 1940 to the late Conrad B. Matthews and Elma Beasley Matthews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Patsy Wallace, Sammy Matthews and Alice Faye Womack.  Larry was a gifted naturalist who loved nature, hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed the monthly river trips with his friends and he had a brilliant mind when it came to building things. Larry retired from Trion after 30 plus years of service as a maintenance technician. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Betty Hickman Matthews; daughters Barbara Harrington (Wiley) of Broadway, NC, Bobbi Matthews (Jason Collins) of Lillington, NC; step-daughter Kimberly Martin (Mark) of Charlotte, NC; brother Jerry Matthews of North Wilksboro; grandchildren Cassie Lynch (Derrick), Clayton Harrington, Trey Rouse; step-grandchildren Alexandra Reynolds (William), Seth Martin; great-grandchildren Maci Lynch, Easton Lynch and Sawyer Lynch.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 17, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and other times at the family home.  The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Harrington, Mr. Mark Martin and Mr. Billy Ray Douglas presiding.  Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Due to the extreme heat, please dress casually.
