Larry Jackson Johnson

Larry Jackson Johnson, age 83, of Sanford, NC, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026 at Central Carolina Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lee County on January 13, 1943 to the late Johnnie Lynville Johnson and Stella Frances (Johnson) Johnson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Carla Jo Sessoms Johnson; siblings Benny Johnson and Fran Johnson Thomas; and daughter-in-law Barbara Johnson.

Larry worked 30 years for Allied Fibers/Honeywell in the maintenance department.  He also worked for Carolina Crane and Tarheel Distributors.  He was a devoted member of Sanford First Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving in almost every capacity including; board member, choir director and Sunday School teacher.  His favorite pastime was playing golf with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Gail Causey Johnson; children Larry Steven “Steve” Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Tamara Taylor (Darren); step-daughter Shannon Shields (Randy); grandchildren Michael Johnson, Ashleigh Johnson, Devin Layne (Meaghan), Brent Layne, and Jessica Johnson; step-grandchildren Amber Williams, Stewart Tyner, Madalyn Shields and Dalton Shields and great-grandchildren Connor, Grayson, Wyatt, Raelyn, Kinsley, Keegan, Bentley, Sarah, Caroline and Tanner.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Buffalo Cemetery with Pastor Tony Ward, Pastor Greg Long and Mrs. Beverly Ward (soloist) officiating. There will be no formal visitation or viewing.
